Feeding

The best food to feed your Flat-Tailed Tortoise is grass and weeds that you have picked from outside your house. These plants contain much better protein and vitamin levels than similar plants that you would find at the supermarket. Keep in mind though that you must ensure no pesticides have been used on the grass or weeds that you intend to feed your tortoise.

A good multivitamin and calcium supplement will be needed for these tortoises.

 

Habitat

Humidity: Humidity levels should be maintained between 60% and 70% for the Flat-Tailed Tortoise.
   
Lighting: As with most turtles and tortoises, the Flat-Tailed Tortoise will need at least 12 hours of UVB light per day.
   
Size: An enclosure that is at least 2 feet by 3 feet will be needed for this species.
   
Substrate: Using a substrate such as cyprus mulch and misting it daily will help you to keep the humidity level as high as these tortoises require.
   
Temperature: The Flat-Tailed Tortoise has one of the greater tolerances for temperature ranges when it comes to tortoises. A temperature gradient should be provideed for them that ranges from 80 degrees F to 90 degrees F.
